Saving rainwater with Collingham Bowling Club

Rainwater Terrace would like to congratulate Collingham Bowling Club on their centenary. The club is open on Saturday and all were welcome to help celebrate.

Collingham Bowling Club had 2 Rainwater Terrace water butts installed before the hot dry weather arrived in the UK which gave them time to fill up with rainwater, the club members were impressed that the water butts filled up with rainwater so fast.

A water butt is a great addition to a sports or leisure facility where lawns and grounds need to be maintained not only is rainwater better for plants and grassed areas its FREE. Installing a water butt is a great way of saving on the rising costs of water bills, Collingham bowling club chose 2 200 litre water butts which will make a big saving compared to using treated water from a hose pipe.

When you attach a water butt using a rainwater diverter to a house, shed or greenhouse roof a over night downpour can fill the tanks to the brim. We receive a lot of feedback from our customers on how surprised they are by the speed at which our water butts fill and not only that but that they do not overflow and spill out over the top they have a concealed overflow which ensures excess water flows back down the drain.

The Problem

Downpipe often directed straight into a normal water butt. When the water butt is full the water butt will overflow water coming down the downpipe.

The Solution

This is a special Bypass Diverter for Rainwater Terrace that solves this problems.

Our special diverter feeds the rainwater into the top of the Rainwater Terrace as usual (pipe A) but we’ve added pipe (B) that takes any excess down to our outlet pipe (C).

This outlet pipe performs its usual function of stopping the stored water from stagnating.

The outlet can either be directed into a drain or taken elsewhere in the garden. We can supply whatever lengths of pipe you need to suit your situation. We also include a connector so that you can fit it to a hosepipe size pipe if that is more convenient. (Handy if you are connecting to a soaker hose)

We kindly received some customer images of the before and after set up after they contacted us to discuss a new set up with a Rainwater Terrace water butt which would be fitted to a downpipe that had previously had a water butt fitted.

The images show the water butts fitted to both the front and back of the property using the existing downpipes that previously went directly into the top of a barrel style water butt.

Our custom diverter that fits 65mm square and 68mm round downpipe is only available from www.rainwater-terrace.com. It is designed to accommodate downpipes that have been cut off to previously fit into the top of a water butt.

Water butts that look great at the front of a house

When installing a water butt we often look for places that are hidden away for example behind a shed or greenhouse or down the side of a garage out of sight, this often means that the water butt and its store of fresh rainwater is simply forgotten about.

Rainwater Terrace water butts address this issue, our water butts look great installed or a patio or at the front of a property, they can be made in to a stunning feature by planting them with cascading trailing greenery and flowers.

Are you paying to water your garden?

It sounds crazy but you could be paying too much to water your garden. The average UK household bill for water has crept up to £393 per year. Much of this water is actually used outside to water plants, lawns and wash cars.

Most people don't know that if you install a water butt you can do all this for free, the savings soon mount up if you are watering hanging baskets, containers and garden boarders on a regular basis. A water butt can fill up over night with a good downpour, this water can then be used over the following week to keep plants well hydrated.

Rainwater Terrace water butts are simple to assemble and install, they look great too so they do not need to be hidden away. water butts that look great by rainwater terrace
