Rainwater Terrace water butts from the beginning

Plastic water butts don’t have to be ugly and hidden away.

Design 4 plastics have developed their own parented Rainwater Terrace water butt in response to the SuDS (Sustainable drainage system) Initiatives.

The current dry weather is brining into sharp focus the importance of saving rainwater with the potential for hosepipe bans, parched gardens and flash flowing when it does eventually rain.

Rainwater Terrace collects and stores rainwater for watering those thirsty plants, keeps it fresh and bedecked with plants, becomes a useful feature rather than an eyesore.

Are you paying to water your garden?

It sounds crazy but you could be paying too much to water your garden. The average UK household bill for water has crept up to £393 per year. Much of this water is actually used outside to water plants, lawns and wash cars.

Most people don't know that if you install a water butt you can do all this for free, the savings soon mount up if you are watering hanging baskets, containers and garden boarders on a regular basis. A water butt can fill up over night with a good downpour, this water can then be used over the following week to keep plants well hydrated.

Rainwater Terrace water butts are simple to assemble and install, they look great too so they do not need to be hidden away. water butts that look great by rainwater terrace

Water butt transformed in 5 weeks

Two  3 Tier 200 litre Rainwater Terrace water butts were connected to a down pipe and planted the systems were left to fill with rainwater.

During this time water from the storage containers was used to fill watering cans. Rainfall overnight can easily fill a 200 litre Rainwater Terrace water butt supplying fresh natural water for garden and house plants.

Should a water butt have to be hidden away?

Water butts of the past have a bad reputation for being ugly most people locate a water butt somewhere out of site often behind a shed, plant or garage.

When a water butt is out of sight it is often not used to its potential and the fresh water collected is left to stagnate while a hosepipe or watering can filled by a tap is used.

This is not the case with a Rainwater Terrace® it can be placed on a patio and planted to look great all year round.
